GETTING BEHIND MARY KING.
Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW began actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. In line with this initiative, BMW dealers like us made the decision to get behind a local athlete of our own.
Our choice was equestrian, Mary King, who delighted us all by winning a silver medal in the Team Eventing discipline in Greenwich Park at London 2012
Mary King trains locally, at her home in Devon. She has represented Great Britain at five Olympic Games from 1992 to 2008, winning one silver and one bronze medal in the team eventing. London 2012 marked her sixth Olympic Games! She has won two gold and one silver medal in the World Equestrian Games team eventing and four team gold medals at the European Eventing Championships, along with one bronze and one silver medal in the individual event and was ranked number 1 in the world in 2012. Nationally, she was the British Open Champion in 1990, 1991 & 1996 and won the CCI four star Badminton Horse Trials in 1992 & 2000, and the CCI four star Burghley Horse Trials in 1996.
“I’m so delighted to have won a silver medal at London 2012,” said Mary. “I can’t thank Westerly and BMW enough. I spend a lot of time driving to and from training sessions and events, so it’s great being able to arrive everywhere in style.”
“Our staff and customers would like to congratulate Mary on her Silver medal,” said Tim Downer, Dealer Principal at Westerly Exeter. “We are all so proud of Mary and we look forward to following her fortunes in the future.”
