Why we're getting behind Mary King and London 2012.
We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local equestrian, Mary King, as she attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavors to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.
Mary King trains locally, at her home in Devon. She has represented Great Britain at five Olympic Games from 1992 to 2008, winning one silver and one bronze medal in the team eventing. She has won two gold and one silver medal in the World Equestrian Games team eventing and four team gold medals at the European Eventing Championships, along with one bronze and one silver medal in the individual event. Nationally, she was the British Open Champion in 1990, 1991 & 1996 and won the CCI four star Badminton Horse Trials in 1992 & 2000, and the CCI four star Burghley Horse Trials in 1996.
"I'm really grateful to Westerly Exeter and BMW for their support," said Mary King. "It's tough trying to qualify for an Olympic place and it's a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It's also fantastic having a brand new BMW 530d SE Touring. There's a lot of travelling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it's great being able to arrive there in style."
Tim Downer, Dealer Principal at Westerly Exeter, said: "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get really involved with the 2012 Games. Our staff and customers are keen to support London 2012 so we're really happy to be backing Mary King - especially since Mary is such an outstanding local athlete."
