Exeter Chiefs’ Rob Baxter puts Exeter School, West Buckland & Wellington through their paces at Sandy Park.

Exeter Chiefs’ Head Coach, Rob Baxter was on blistering top form when he and coaches Hadyn Thomas and Phil Dollman delivered a Masterclass to lucky pupils from Exeter School, West Buckland & Wellington School.

Sponsored by Westerly Exeter BMW & a sports celebrity in his own right, Rob played for, captained, and is now Head Coach at Exeter Chiefs, and has been supported by Westerly Exeter BMW since 2006.

Rob made history taking Exeter Chiefs through to the Rugby Premiership. Finishing second last year after a nail biting match against Saracens. He also won the LV cup in 2014. Rob was also part of the England coaching team during their Argentina tour a few years ago.

Exeter School a co-educational independent school for 7 – 18-year-olds, of which Westerly BMW Franchise Director Tim Downer is an Alumnus, is well respected for both its academic and sporting achievements and they were delighted to be on board for the masterclass.

Head of Rugby at Exeter School, Tom Ross, Exeter School said: “The chance for the boys to have another session with Rob following on from the success of last year’s at Exeter School was again too exciting to miss. For the players to have that exposure to what happens at the top level is invaluable to not only their rugby here at the school but as they move on up and play their rugby wherever their next step may take them. It’s been a great event and we hope to keep benefitting from similar events at the Chiefs.”

West Buckland School is a thriving HMC boarding and day school for 700 boys and girls aged 3-18 situated in North Devon. The school has a consistently high record of achievement both academically and in sports.

Head of Boarding, Rugby &Cricket, Dominic Ford said: “We’re thrilled to have been invited to this event at the Exeter Chiefs’ stadium. He’s an incredibly talented rugby player in his own right and one of the most respected coaches in the country. The boys took so much from just two hours of training, it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, something they’ll be able to tell their kids and grand kids. We want to thank Rob and the Exeter Chiefs for sparing him and also Westerly BMW for this fantastic opportunity.”

Wellington School, Somerset is a school for girls and boys aged 3-18 years old. With a strong sporting ethic and great academic record the school were another obvious choice to be chosen to work with Rob and his team.

Director of Sport & Wellbeing at Wellington School, Steffan Jones said: "We are delighted to have been associated with this prestigious training session. We have a long and fruitful association with Chiefs, with several of our boys in the Academy and development squads. This consolidates the ongoing work we have been doing with the teams on strength, conditioning, fitness and skills. It is also a wonderful opportunity for our players to learn from some of the best - we look forward to taking rugby at Wellington to new heights."

Head Coach at Exeter Chiefs, Rob Baxter said: “The lads did really well today. It’s great to see so much enthusiasm for the game and the desire to get involved and work hard. Well done to those that won the catching competition at the end of the session and thanks to Westerly Exeter for providing the Exeter Chiefs tickets prize and for putting on the Masterclass.”

Tim Downer, Franchise Director of the Westerly Group said: “We’re delighted to be supporting these Masterclasses with Rob Baxter. We’re keen supporters of rugby at a local and regional level, sponsoring Barnstaple Rugby 1st XV and teams across the Westerly BMW areas of Interest, as well as Rob Baxter at Exeter Chiefs. It’s brilliant to see so much enthusiasm and how engaged the lads are. Fingers crossed, with some of Rob’s imparted expertise they go on to do well this season.”
